Conversations with Sean- Dog Dots and Puppies
Keme, our mutt, is pregnant. One of the signs is her nipples becoming more prominent. Sean noticed them today.
Sean- "Mama!! Those are her dots!!"
Me- "She'll use them to nurse her puppies"
Sean- "Yea, when they get here. Then they will go home."
Me- "That's right. They will stay here for a little while then they will go to their homes." --I've never mentioned that the puppies will be rehomed to him.
Sean- "Like we go to Grandma's! We eat dinner. We play legos. We come back home."
Also, according to Sean, the puppies are in dog houses in Keme's belly.

Random Sean-ness
The other day Sean saw a work van drive down the street.
Sean- "A fire truck!"
Richard- "That's not a fire truck. That's a work van but it does have a ladder on top of it."
Sean- "It's pretending to be a fire truck!"

School Days: St Patrick's Day/Ireland
Another fun week! We learned about Ireland and celebrated St Patrick's Day.
Facts the kids learned about Ireland:
*It's an island.
*It rains a lot there.
*Boys and girls are lads and lassies
Here's what we did:
You can't learn about Ireland without Irish dancing!
The flag was our next step
Green and orange art
Forget scissors! Tearing's more fun!
Got to have shamrocks!
Math matching
Blarney stones...or just an excuse to make rocks out of clay and paint them. ;)
And of course we can't forget our Irish lunch on Monday.
This week's books:
Ireland the Land - Erinn Banting
A Pot O'Gold A Treasury of Irish Stories, Poetry, Folklore and (of course) Blarney - Kathleen Krull
Harp O'Gold - Teresa Bateman

Muffin Tin Monday 3-14
Top of the morning! ..er afternoon. If you haven't guessed already, this week is all about Ireland and St Patrick's Day!
Green apple sauce, milk, carrots w/ranch,
green beans, corned beef hash, mac & cheese
The idea was this to be similar to the flag of Ireland: green, white, orange. I replace one white with an Irish food. And for some reason, mac & cheese was more orange in my mind. A little note, corned beef hash was NOT a hit! LOL

Weekend Waffles 3-13
We had a routine of Sundays being our family breakfast. We've gotten out of that routine. In the meantime I've been reading Aleacia's Pancake Sunday. I've decided that it's about time that we get back into family breakfast on Sunday! I like pancakes but I can not get the hang of making them. Plus, I couldn't completely take Aleacia's idea. I love waffles and found a waffle maker on freecycle. I got it awhile back and it's sat, unused. So today, I got it out and tried my hand at making waffles! It's not nearly as difficult as you'd think and fresh waffles are much better than frozen waffles!
I started with a basic recipe.
You'll need:
Dry ingredients:
Wet ingredients:
Fold together:
Now it's time to cook!! I got my waffle maker from freecycle so I didn't have a manual.
I had to do trial and error.
Too little batter:
Too much!
I did end up getting the hang of it. Ripe bananas make a yummy topping!
It's important to note, you must have good syrup! Like pure maple syrup from St Johnsbury, VT!
Eek!! We need more!!
Time to eat!

School Days: Rainbows/Colors
What a fun week! There's quite a lot you can talk about and do when the topic is rainbows! The picture above is from when we made our own rainbow inside! The kids learned that all you need for a rainbow is light and water (prism).
Here's what else we did!
Then came the fun part! Colors!!
Free paint to experiment with the 3 primary colors:
The serious painter:
Almost made black!
More experimenting...What colors make the colors in our markers?
Red, Orange, Green and Black markers:
Lastly, we used oil, paint and water to make artwork.
Then we used paint brushed to drip it into water.
Gave it a little swirl..
Placed a piece of paper on it..
And ta da! Art!
And of course we can't forget our rainbow lunch on Monday.
This week's books:
What Makes a Rainbow? - Betty Ann Schwartz
What Is a Rainbow? - Chris Arvetis and Carole Palmer
The Magic School Bus Makes a Rainbow - Joanna Cole
Sean's pick:
Musicians of The Sun - Gerald McDermott
