What's On My Hook: Blanket, Order Progress, & a New Finished Product

First things first, my temperature blanket is coming along. I'm behind a few days but here is the progress so far. The first square is my January square. I want to make an applique for it but not exactly sure what yet.

Lexi, I swear your owl will be done soon!! Here she is so far. The owl itself needs ears and feet. Then I have to make its tree.

And lastly....my latest finished product: this beautiful unicorn hooded scarf. I am absolutely loving this one!!! I have the pattern for toddler/child and teen/adult sizes. I can also adapt the pattern for different animals. This unicorn one was for an order. Em wants a fox one and Maddy wants a panda one. Toddler/child sizes will be $80 and Adult/teen sizes will be $100. The materials aren't cheap and they take a decent amount of time to make. They are extremely soft though!!

Tasty Tuesday: Chocolate Keto Fat Bombs

Chocolate Keto Fat Bombs

What are fat bombs?

Ketogenic fat bombs are small snacks or treats that are high in fat and low in carbs (so, literally a fat bomb) that you can eat as a quick breakfast, as a quick mid-afternoon snack, as a pre- or after- workout snack, or as extra fuel during your day. -Keto Summit

I like to use fat bombs as snacks or to even out my macro percentages. Fat bombs are also a good excuse for a tasty treat. One day last week my percentages were off and I wanted something chocolaty. I looked at some fat bomb recipes but decided to experiment. The result was tasty fudgy chocolate fat bombs. Better yet, the recipe is very simple!

Recipe

  • 1 stick of butter- softened
  • 8 oz cream cheese- softened
  • 1/3 cup sweetener...I use stevia.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

Like I said, this is really simple. All you do is mix all the ingredients together. Letting the butter and cream cheese soften first makes this much easier. I prefer to use a hand mixer but it can be mixed by hand as well. That's it! You can eat it right away or let it set in the fridge to make it fudgier.

The recipe makes 13 servings. Each serving is 1oz.
Carbs: 2g
Protein: 1g
Fat: 9g

Hot Mess Monday

The living room is always a hot mess during daycare days!!

Hot messes... we all have them right? Today I decided I was going to tackle a couple hot messes that I had been neglecting. First up was the dreaded laundry. I have no problems keeping the clothes clean. It's the folding that I neglect. I had this great idea a while back to buy a few extra laundry baskets. My thought was that I would have one that we would use as a hamper...only able to hold what I can wash in a day. I would have five baskets left: one per person. I planned to do a load a day and then as the clothes came out of the dryer I would sort them into their person's basket. It worked for a while but then I got behind. Eventually, the baskets just gave me more places to hold clothes that were waiting to be folded. Today I brought all 6 baskets of hot mess out to the kitchen, cranked up the music and got folding. I'm caught up for now. I wonder how long it will last... If you stay caught up on laundry how do you do it!? It seems I need some tips!

The other hot mess I tackled today was the Passion Flower Vine that took over my butterfly garden last year. I cut it way back and as soon as I figure out where I want it to be this year I will move it. My poor butterfly garden looks so sad in its offseason. It was so beautiful last summer!

Lastly, I'll leave you with this little hot mess. I wanted to practice my headstands the other day. The lesson I learned that day was to make sure the dogs are gated out of the room next time I want to practice.

Spring Fever

I have a serious case of spring fever. I'm not sure if it's just my norm for this time of year or if it's Mother Nature's flip-flopping. All I seem to be able to think about is gardening, spending the majority of the day outside, hikes, setting up my hammock, camping...etc. I know I'm not the only one. Who's with me? I'm just not made for this nasty cold winter weather. Winter is my least favorite season but at least it's followed by my favorite!

For now I...

Plan:

I have several plans/ideas running through my head. For the garden: first thing is I need to move my Passion Flower Vine. It took off last year. Which is great except it took over the butterfly garden, killing other plants in the process. I need to give it its own place and something to grow on. Moving it out of the main butterfly garden will allow me to expand the butterfly garden this year. I collected a lot of Milkweed seeds last year. I want to have more Milkweed outside but also have some Milkweed that is only in the caterpillar nursery. I also want to do the same for the Black Swallowtails. I want to add Parsley to where the Fennel is and have some for the caterpillar nursery.

This spring I want to give the ducks a better pool/pond. Ideally, I want a self-sufficient mini pond. I don't want to have to constantly dump and refill it....especially if I want a bigger one. ...that's a lot of water we will be wasting! So I am researching and brainstorming. I'm thinking about adding plants and animals (snails, fish) to the pond to keep it cleaner. I have the idea of finding an old tub someone is trying to get rid of and converting it into the duck pond. I think it would look neat and it already has a drain if I need to drain it. But that's only one idea. I'm not exactly sure how it's going to turn out. I'd love to hear some tips and ideas!!

** I had to come back and add this little bit. I was looking over the post, about to hit "publish" and remembered something else I need to be planning. ...A bigger, better caterpillar nursery!! Last year I raised and released 46 butterflies. I hope to raise and release more this year!!

Prep:

As I said above, I collected a lot of Milkweed seeds this year. They are currently in the fridge going through a cold moist stratification. I will be able to plant these seeds about mid-February. I think will plant the Parsley at the same time.
"Cold stratification is very important for the germination and growth of Milkweed. It helps to break the seeds natural dormancy cycle by exposing the seed to winter-like temperatures that help soften or crack its hard outer casing. Without prolonged exposure to cold temperatures, your milkweed seed is unlikely to sprout." - American Meadows

Enjoy some houseplants:

I bought a couple of houseplants when I was at Walmart yesterday. I also used some Christmas money to order a bonsai tree. It should be here this week! I can't wait to try my hand at taking care of a bonsai tree!!

And look back:

Here are a few of my favorite pictures from this past spring/summer:

I just love bumble bees!!

One of the 17 Monarchs I raised and released in 2017...It's a girl!

One of the 29 Black Swallowtails I raised and released in 2017...It's also a girl!!

Female vs male Monarchs...notice the black dots on the male's bottom wings

Fitness Friday: The Dreaded Stall

My weight chart with daily weigh-ins
Weight loss isn't linear. I know that. I expect that. However, it seems I've hit a stall. I haven't been logging my food on MyFitnessPal so I don't know if I have been keeping my carbs as low as I should. That's where I think things may have gone wrong. I may have inadvertently eaten too many carbs even though I was sticking to keto friendly foods. Yesterday I added the peanut butter cookies recipe onto MFP. Turns out I was eating about 16 grams of carbs a day in just those cookies. Oops!!! Oh well, I can fix this! I started logging on MFP again yesterday. I did decently keeping my carbs low but still could be a little lower. My protein and fat are slightly out of whack. Today I'll plan better. For accountability, I will be posting my macro pie chart in both the Ketogenics "Anonymous" Facebook group and on my Instagram.

Thru The Lens Thursday

For Christmas, my parents got me these really cool lenses that clip onto my phone. Today's post is about them. I got a zoom, macro, wide, and fisheye lens. The macro and zoom are my favorite.

It snowed last night so I tried out the macro lens. Check out those snowflakes!!!

Today I played around with the zoom lens. I like to bird watch but taking pictures of the birds is tricky. I tend to scare them away trying to get that good shot. Here is a picture through the window in our front door without the zoom. The rest of the pictures are through the same window but with the zoom lens on.
