Emily: 10 Months (Bonus Video!)

Another month has come and gone. Emily is 10 months old today. She had her "9 month" check up about a week and a half ago and weighed in at 16lbs 8oz (10th percentile) and 28in (50th percentile). Size isn't the only way I can tell my little baby's growing up; I can't help but notice the everyday changes. She's oh so close to pulling up. She actually had both knees off the ground yesterday but failed to straighten her feet. So close! But I'm ok with her taking her time!! She still does her funny crawl but it's changed a little. She now does it with only one hand, leaving the other free to carry things. I jokingly say it looks like a monkey crawl.

Socially, she's grown up a lot! She has learned her first sign. I knew she knew what she was doing when she handed me the boppy and signed "milk" when I asked her if she wanted to nurse. She also truly believes that everyone understands her baby babble. She loves to have conversations. And my favorite thing that has grown is her empathy. No one can cry without her getting concerned and without her trying to hug them. It doesn't matter if they are hurt, sad or in timeout. She crawls to them, leans in with a concerned look and then wraps her arms around them. It's the sweetest thing I've ever seen!

Her sleep is also changing. She still sleeps wonderfully at night. Naps are what are changing. They were getting really bad until I realized she wanted to sleep in the bedroom alone instead of in the living room like she had been. I always have little babies sleep in the living room because not only do they seem to sleep better with noise but it also allows me to constantly watch them (call me paranoid!). She's still in transition so there are still some bad nap days but then there are some really really good naps. Lastly, solids. She really enjoys her solids now that she has more of a variety  She's been introduced to sauces and spices and loves it; especially spaghetti and chili (just the meat, sauces and rice. no beans yet).

Emily: 9 Months

"Oh mama, not the camera again!

Here we go again: where is the time going!? My little baby is 9 months old today. She's not very little anymore but she's still such a joy! I don't have stats for her because some how her 9 month appointment was scheduled for mid October. Our home scale says she hasn't gained anything but I know that can't be right. She has really taken off on eating solids. Still no teeth but that's not stopping her! She's had some foods that I hadn't planned on giving her yet thanks to her big siblings. She really likes those cheesy scrambled eggs! She crawls a very unique crawl. She crawls with one leg in front and one behind her. She's also working really hard to pull up. She can get onto one foot and one knee and then doesn't know what to do next. I don't think it'll be long!

Daddy has become her favorite person, unless she wants to nurse and well, only one person will do then. When hubby gets home he has to pick her up and hold and talk to her for a little while or she will throw a fit. That's another new thing this month. She's learned to throw fits. Oh what fun are they! Her favorite time to do it, other than when she wants daddy, is when she doesn't want her diaper changed. She arches her back, screams swats her arms and legs. Being carried still calms her down very nicely. I've finally master the back carry with my Mai Tei and Em loves it!

Emily: 8 Months

My little jellybean is 8 months old today. According to our home scale she's 17 lbs. If that's true, she's no longer following Sean's lead and has jumped percentiles. She's growing by leaps and bounds. Her first word is "mama". You have no idea how happy I am to have a baby that says mama first! The only problem is she only says it when she's upset. So while I love hearing her say it, I don't want her to because I don't want her to be upset. Her favorite food right now is plums. Oh my does she love them!

She has gotten better and better at sitting (even while reaching). She has learned to get on her hands and knees and back to sitting. She has learned to sit on her knees. She has even gotten very good at getting around the room by scooting on her butt or reaching and sitting back down...who needs crawling!? Then finally, just last night, she half crawled! She got on her hands and knees and used her hands to pull herself forward. She just has to learn that she can use her legs too and there will be no stopping her. Her biggest obstacle right now is when her legs slide out from under her. She can't figure out what to do so she cries "mama! mama!".

Maddy's crawling

It wasn't much but Maddy crawled for the first time today! Just 6 days after starting to rock on her hands and knees.

Uh Oh! He's on the move! Yep, Sean learned to crawl today...so we spent this evening baby proofing.
