School Days: Astronauts and Space Travel

Our final week on outer space was spent learning about astronauts and space travel. We checked out the video The Big Space Shuttle along with a lot of books from the library. For our project, I wasn't sure what we were going to do until I was drinking a soda and thought that the small soda bottle kinda looked like a space shuttle. So I saved a few.

Hot glue guns are great but I like the kids to do as much of the project as possible. I thought back to a blog post from Teacher Tom awhile back and decided to try something. While the 2 year olds (Maddy and Aiden) slept, Sean helped my with the hot glue gun parts.

First he had to learn to use the hot glue gun.

Once the others were awake, they painted the bottle caps.

And added stickers

We had an astronaut lunch on Monday and a shooting star lunch later in the week.

Kids Meal: Astronaut

Our last week on outer space is space travel and astronauts. I picked the applesauce, juice and cheese because of the way they are packaged. The grapes don't go with the theme but how can I say no when they ask for healthy stuff!?

School Days: Solar System

We're just wrapping up week 2 on outer space. Over the past couple of weeks Sean learned all about the planets in our solar system and the asteroid belt.

Along with all the books we checked out of the library, I also found Magic School Bus: Lost in Space for him to watch. He loved it!

I taped planet print outs on the wall. He loved using his drum sticks to point to them and ask the names.

And of course, Sean made a solar system to hang above his bed!

Next week, we're moving onto stars, constellations, comets and meteorites!

Kids Meal: Rocket Ship

My little guy has shown a big interest in outer space so what better way to start our lesson on space than with a rocket ship sandwich! He was quite impressed!
