Weekend Waffles 4-24

Pineapple Waffles

Pineapple waffles sounded good. They were good...just not great. I found the recipe here.

What you'll need:
  • Flour
  • Crushed pineapple
  • Milk
  • Eggs
  • Sugar
  • Canola oil
  • Baking powder
  • Salt

Another recipe that calls for separated eggs.
Look at that fluffiness!!

I think the batter was too liquidy. The waffles didn't seem to cook evenly.

And last but not least...I had an announcement to make.

Weekend Waffles 4-17

Cinnamon Belgian Waffles

These have got to be the best yet! Here's the recipe. It seems that the recipes that call for separated eggs are the fluffiest waffles. I guess whisking the egg whites is worth it!

What you'll need:
  • Eggs (separated)
  • Vanilla extract
  • Buttermilk
  • Butter
  • All-purpose flour
  • Baking powder
  • Baking soda
  • Sugar
  • Salt
  • Ground cinnamon

Check out the fluffy egg whites.

I can't seem to get full waffles without the batter over flowing. But that's just looks.

This one definitely calls for whipped cream!

Weekend Waffles 4-3

April fools!!

Not the normal waffles this week! Cupcakes and ice cream in waffle cones and waffle bowls. The ice cream in waffle bowls is nothing new but how about cupcakes in ice cream cones!?

Make your favorite cupcake batter and fill the cones. I placed then in a cake pan so that they would stand straight while baking...very important if you want them to stand after baking!

Bake them like normal cupcakes, until a tooth pick stuck in the middle comes out clean...for my oven, that was about 30 minutes.

Then decorate! This icing is perfect for these because it makes it look like soft serve ice cream.

Perfect served at an ice cream bar with waffle bowls for the ice cream...especially for a special little girl's birthday! Happy birthday Maddy!

Weekend Waffles 3-13

We had a routine of Sundays being our family breakfast. We've gotten out of that routine. In the meantime I've been reading Aleacia's Pancake Sunday. I've decided that it's about time that we get back into family breakfast on Sunday! I like pancakes but I can not get the hang of making them. Plus, I couldn't completely take Aleacia's idea. I love waffles and found a waffle maker on freecycle. I got it awhile back and it's sat, unused. So today, I got it out and tried my hand at making waffles! It's not nearly as difficult as you'd think and fresh waffles are much better than frozen waffles!

I started with a basic recipe.

You'll need:
  • All purpose flour
  • Whole wheat flour
  • Baking soda
  • Baking powder
  • Salt
  • Sugar
  • Eggs
  • Butter
  • Buttermilk
  • Vegetable spray

Now it's time to cook!! I got my waffle maker from freecycle so I didn't have a manual.
I had to do trial and error.

Too little batter:

Too much!

I did end up getting the hang of it. Ripe bananas make a yummy topping!

It's important to note, you must have good syrup! Like pure maple syrup from St Johnsbury, VT!

Eek!! We need more!!

Time to eat!
